Epic DIY Timelapse..shot with an old iPod
Просмотров 3,1 тыс.7 лет назад
You don't always need a super expensive camera to get a shot that works. I used my daughter's old ipod (second hand for $75) and used it to capture timelapse on the fly during a weekend fix-up project. Would this have looked better on a full frame DSLR? Maybe, but sometimes the best camera is the one you have in your hand. You can see how I edited this here: ruclips.net/user/edit?o=U&video_id=1...

How to Make Short Films (That Don't Suck), Ready to Kill

Now, making a sensible film of any sort is tough by any definition of the word, but making a good one? That's a minor miracle. In the next three episodes I'll talk about things to help you make your next short film. But to s...

    what laptop computer are you using for these high end projects?

    • @dare.cinema
      @dare.cinema 2 года назад

      Hey there, IW. If I have to edit on the go or on set I'm using either a Mac 16" Macbook Pro or a Dell XPS/Precision (I know there are lots of other great gaming laptops out there but these two work for me). A lot of times when doing work for studio projects you go into their bays some of which are Windows some of which are Mac so at this point I'm OS agnostic and whatever gets the job done works fine for me. But if you only have a laptop and are working on really heavy footage then you definitely want to think about using a proxy workflow which is a breeze to edit and then when finished you just do a conform and render.

    Question, I have a Canon 1DS Mark 3 I normally do a time-lapse with. I have a C300 Mark 2. Here is my question, can you do a time lapse with a C300 Mark 2 and make water look like cotton candy as you can using a slow exposure with a still camera? If so what setting would you suggest. Thank you in advance.

    • @dare.cinema
      @dare.cinema 4 года назад

      Hi there. Happy new year. From my experience you won't be able to get anything close to the look you are going for simply because long exposures like that to make water that smooth often take 3-6 seconds depending on the exact you are looking for. Theoretically you could lower it to 1 fps and try setting the shutter speed to match at 1/1 or perhaps try using the 180 angle setting but again you'll have to experiment. I don't think you'll get the look you are envisioning simply because 1 frame per second is still not slow enough to get that smooth look. I may be wrong, but I don't have a body of water nearby to test this on at the moment. Let me know what you see if you test it.

  • @MauriceCovingtonvideographer

    How exactly are you able to maintain focus on the C300 MII. Based on my knowledge of the camera, I have to assume that this is all manual focus on this particular camera.

    • @dare.cinema
      @dare.cinema 4 года назад

      Hi Maurice, I used Canon L Series lenses with AutoFocus switched on and the camera maintained excellent Auto-focus. There were about 6 shots total (other than drone shots) where I used manual focus for a macro shot because I was playing with the Sony A7S2 which doesn't have autofocus. The C300 Mark II's DPAF autofocus system is amazing and very empowering for me as an owner/operator often called on to do shoots as a one-man band.

    • @MauriceCovingtonvideographer
      @MauriceCovingtonvideographer 4 года назад

      Dare Stevens okay so you were not actually shooting in 60p because the cameras DPAF doesn’t work at this frame rate. I tried it earlier today at 120 FPS; however I did notice the the Focus Assist does work with the L series glass. Thanks for posting.

    Hello Dare Stevens. I loved the video it really helped but there are just a few questions I have. Like for starters should I introduce my video before I start and also how do I pick what script to use of they don't provide me one? Thank you so much

    • @dare.cinema
      @dare.cinema 5 лет назад

      Hey there. Yes you should do a standard slate at the start which usually consists of your name and saying what part you are trying for and then showing full body front and profile. Slates are usually just 10 seconds or so. Then cut to the audition. If they aren't providing you with a script or a sample script to read from that's kind of unusual unless you are doing an unsolicited audition. Either way, I would suggest taking a scene that you like from a similar themed movie and re-enacting that scene. What most producers and directors are looking to see is first if you physically fit how they have envisioned the part and then acting ability both in emotional terms as well as the ability to remember and repeat lines, theoretically from a script unless the project involves a lot of improv. Hope that helps. Best, Dare

    Do you prefer the image of c300 II or varicam lt?

    • @dare.cinema
      @dare.cinema 5 лет назад

      Hi Pablo, sorry for the delay in answering. I prefer the Varicam Lt look out of the camera and think it has a more natural cinematic look so if I had to choose between the two for a small indie feature I'd go for the Varicam. But outside of that in terms of ease of use, convenience, form factor, etc... for run and gun on all my bread and butter client work, the C300 II is my go to. And really with a decent color pass, you can make these two cameras match almost identically except for that slight Canon video'y look that both Canon and Sony have different flavors of. IMO. Again sorry for the delayed reply. Best, Dare
